Hard split postcards template, 4 × 6", in the Photography studio palette

Postcards template

Hard split · Photography studio

The sheet is cut on the golden section: a field of colour against bare paper.

Set in Didone editorial on the Photography studio palette — an elegant pairing drawn for creative & photo. The canvas is 4 × 6", the trim size the press cuts to, with the bleed and the safety margin already in place.

What you can change

Everything. The template opens as ordinary layers — headline, supporting lines, contacts, rules and blocks of colour — so you rewrite the words, swap the palette for your own brand colours, drop your logo in place of the mark, and move anything that sits wrong. The placeholder wording is deliberately the length of real copy, so a layout that holds here holds with your text too.

When it looks right, the artwork travels with you to Postcards or any other postcards in the catalogue, where stock, quantity and turnaround are priced live. We proof every job in Sun Valley before it goes on press.

How this file has to be built

Bleed 0.125" · safety 0.125"
Backgrounds run 0.125" past the cut line so trimming never opens a white sliver; anything that must survive stays 0.125" inside it. The studio canvas is the cut line itself — magenta edge — and the dashed guide inside it is the safety margin.
300 DPI at final size
Small format is read at arm's length, so photos and logos need the full 300. One side or both, your choice at checkout.
Foil mask · Raised spot UV mask
These ride as separate masks, not as part of the artwork: 100% black where the layer lands, white where it does not. Design the ink in the studio and send the mask alongside it.
  • · Direct-mail sizes have to leave the address block and postal barcode clear — the studio's back-side templates already reserve it.
  • · Uncoated stock absorbs more ink: heavy solid backgrounds read a shade darker than on coated.

Postcards questions

Which sizes can actually be mailed?
4 × 6, 4.25 × 5.5, 5 × 7, 5.5 × 8.5, 6 × 9 and 4.25 × 11 are the standard USPS card and flat sizes. The square 4 × 4 and 6 × 6 cards are non-machinable and cost more to mail, so they are better handed out than posted.
Do I have to print the back?
No. Front-only is cheaper and common for handouts. If you are mailing, you need the back for the address panel, so print both sides.
Is 8.5 × 11 a postcard or a flyer?
It is the same trim; the difference is stock. On card stock it is an oversized mailer, on text weight it is a flyer. Both are ordered from the postcard configurator.
