It depends on the type. A standard adhesive windshield banner decal is applied to the outside of the glass with the adhesive on the back, which is the most durable option. Perforated and reverse-cut vinyl can go inside-glass with the adhesive on the printed face so it reads correctly from the street and is protected from weather and car washes. Tell us which you want when you order — the artwork has to be mirrored for inside-glass application.

Rules on windshield obstruction vary and are enforced locally, so we won't tell you a size is legal for your vehicle. What we can say is that dealership windshield stickers and sale lettering are normally sized as a top strip roughly 4 to 8 inches tall running across the upper windshield, or applied to the rear glass, to stay out of the driver's line of sight. Check your state's vehicle code before ordering anything larger.

Static cling windshield stickers use no adhesive at all — they hold by surface tension on clean glass and peel off with no residue, which is why they're the pick for service reminders and temporary lot pricing you'll swap out. Adhesive vinyl holds far better in heat and highway wind but takes work to remove.
