Here's how to count booklet pages: count every side you can turn to, including all four cover surfaces and any blank pages. One sheet folded in half creates four booklet pages, so saddle-stitched totals increase in fours. Angels Print’s page selector includes the cover. “12 (Cover=4, Inside=8)” means 12 pages altogether.
Settle the count before ordering. For a holiday catalog or year-end program, even one late sponsor acknowledgment can push the content into the next page option. Build a numbered paper mockup, then check your finished PDF against it.
How to count booklet pages with a paper mockup
Fold three sheets of scrap paper in half and nest them together. That's a 12-page mock booklet. Starting at the front, mark every position from 1 through 12 in reading order, including surfaces you plan to leave blank.
These marks are production references. They don't need to appear in the printed design. Your first product page might carry the number “1,” but that label doesn't tell the estimator how many physical pages the booklet contains.
Give every position a job. The holiday catalog below shows how to allocate all 12 pages; for a year-end program, substitute the event schedule and acknowledgments for product sections without changing the count.
Page 1 is the front cover. Put the catalog title and main image here. Page 2, the inside front cover, can hold a welcome message or stay blank. Both positions count as cover pages.
Use pages 3 and 4 for opening products, assigning one category to each page. Each gets its own page position. A facing pair is called a spread and counts as two pages, so don't count a spread as one.
Allocate pages 5 and 6 to gift selections, then pages 7 and 8 to more products. An image crossing the fold still uses two pages. Check the middle of your mockup. Pages 6 and 7 form its center spread.
Reserve pages 9 and 10 for ordering information. Page 9 might explain ordering, while page 10 holds collection details or another planned section. That completes the eight inside pages.
Page 11 is the inside back cover. Place an acknowledgment here or mark it as an intentional blank. Finish with contact details or a closing image on page 12, the back cover. You now have four cover pages and eight inside pages.
Three folded sheets make 12 pages. The scrap sheets explain the finished booklet structure; they aren't a specification for the printer’s press sheets or production layout.
Does the cover count if it uses the same paper?
Yes, the cover still counts. Every total in the Saddle Stitch Booklets page selector includes four cover pages, with options running from 8 through 64 in four-page increments. Selecting 16 gives you four cover pages plus 12 inside pages.
Paper choice doesn't change that arithmetic. Choosing “Same As Inside” for the cover stock keeps all four cover positions, and selecting a separate cover stock doesn't add another four pages to the total.
Inside stocks are 100# Gloss Text, 100# Silk Text and 70# Uncoated. Cover choices depend on your other selections. Confirm the combination in the configurator. Your numbered mockup only needs to change if the content allocation changes.
What if the content doesn't fit a multiple of four?
Count the inside content first. Then add the four cover positions. If your year-end program needs 18 inside pages, the total is 22, which isn't a listed ordering option. Choose 24 and allocate two additional pages, or reduce the inside content to 16 pages for a 20-page booklet.
Decide where those extra pages belong. Two blanks at the end can be intentional, while an empty page between an event introduction and its schedule may interrupt the reader. Useful content can fill the space. Don't add filler just to occupy paper.
Blank pages still count toward production. A blank inside front cover remains page 2 and belongs in the total. Before removing intentional blanks from the handoff, confirm how their positions will be communicated and preserved.

Which size and finish decisions affect the order?
Choose the finished size first. Listed sizes include 5.5 x 8.5, 6 x 9 and 8.5 x 8.5 inches. Moving a dense product layout into a smaller format may require extra pages to keep descriptions readable. Proof a page at its intended physical size before squeezing the content.
Size and page count affect the configuration price, as do quantity, stock and finishing. Check supported combinations in the configurator. Cover options include matte lamination and soft touch lamination, which change the cover treatment without changing the page count.
Saddle Stitch Booklets start at $68.85, with a default run of 25 pieces. Your configuration determines the checkout price. The starting price doesn't cover every page count or finish, and although quantity choices extend to 10,000, that quantity is listed only for totals through 48 pages.

What should you check before handing off the PDF?
Open the exported PDF beside your mockup. Check the actual export, since deleting a blank or exporting a spread differently can make the file disagree with the layout you approved.
Start with the total and cover split, such as “12 total: 4 cover, 8 inside.” Match that split to the product’s Pages option. Unnumbered title pages still count. Include every intentional blank, too.
Next, follow the reading order from front cover to back cover, remembering that reader spreads contain two pages. Don't create printer pairs unless requested. Confirm whether the handoff requires individual pages and whether the cover belongs in the same file.
Check the file setup requirements beside the artwork upload, including accepted file types and sizes. Confirm the selected product’s bleed and safe-area requirements, then inspect image resolution at final print size. Ask about missing requirements before export.
Review the content against approved copy. For a holiday catalog, verify ordering dates and product details; for a program, check names and the event sequence. Still need changes to the layout? Custom Design can help, with scope and timing confirmed for your project.
Request a digital proof by email and review it before approval. Uploading or previewing doesn't confirm production readiness. You remain responsible for the accuracy of approved files.

Frequently asked questions
Do booklet page counts include the cover?
Yes, Angels Print includes the cover. The Saddle Stitch Booklets page selector counts the front cover, inside front cover, inside back cover and back cover. A 16-page selection contains those four cover pages plus 12 inside pages.
How many pages does one folded sheet make?
One folded sheet makes four pages. Each half has a front and back surface, so three sheets folded in half and nested together make a 12-page paper mockup, including the cover surfaces.
Do blank pages count in a booklet?
Yes, blank pages still count. Each occupies a page position even without printed content. Include intentional blanks in your total and identify their positions in the handoff; a blank inside cover remains a cover page.
Can I order a 22-page saddle stitch booklet?
22 pages isn't a listed option. Angels Print offers totals from 8 to 64 in increments of four. Allocate two more pages for a 24-page booklet, or reduce the content to fit 20 pages.
