Write a reviewThe common ones are #10 business (4-1/8" x 9-1/2"), #9 reply and remittance envelopes that fit inside a #10, #6-3/4 for statements, A-2 through A-7 invitation envelopes (A-7 is 5-1/4" x 7-1/4", the wedding and greeting-card size), and 6" x 9" and 9" x 12" booklet and catalog envelopes. Specialty envelopes such as square, open-end policy and announcement styles are available too. Tell us what's going inside and we'll confirm the size before you commit to a run.
On a standard #10 window envelope the window is about 1-1/8" x 4-1/2", positioned roughly 7/8" from the left edge and 1/2" up from the bottom. Your address block has to sit fully inside that opening with room to shift, because inserts move a little in the envelope. Ask us for the dieline before you finalize your invoice or check template, and keep printed graphics out of the window area — double-window versions for remittance mailings show the return address through the top window.
There are two ways to make custom printed envelopes and they behave differently. Printing on pre-made envelopes is faster and cheaper but leaves a small unprinted margin near the seams and the flap, so no true bleed. Printing flat and then converting — die-cutting and gluing the envelope after it's printed — gives edge-to-edge color, printed flaps and printed interiors, but it takes longer and carries a higher minimum quantity.
Leave the bottom 5/8" of the front clear so the postal barcode can be sprayed and read, and keep dark graphics or heavy tints out of the address block. Letter-rate envelopes must stay within 6-1/8" x 11-1/2" and be rectangular; anything larger or squarer moves to a higher rate. For marketing envelopes we usually keep the teaser copy on the left third and the top edge, which draws attention without crowding the address or the indicia.
